IMMUNOHISTOCHEMICAL STUDY OF BASIC FIBROBLAST GROWTH FACTOR RECEPTOR IN HUMAN TRANSITIONAL CELL CARCINOMA OF BLADDER

  • Aim: To evaluate the significance of basic fibrob1ast growth factor receptor (bFGF) ex-Pression in human transitional cell carcinoma of b1adder (BTCC). Methods: The expression of bFGF wasdetected by standard ABC immunohistochemical technique in 33 paraffin - embedded tissue specimens ofBTCC. Results: All normal transitional cells were negatively stained in bFGF. Neoplastic cells, musclecells and endothelial cells of vessels were positively stained. Strongly positive expression of bFGF in tumorcells correlated closely with different pathological grades and clinical stages (both P 0.05). But therewas no significant correlati0n between bFGF over expression and number of lesions or postoperative reccu-rance (both P 0. 05). Conclusion: bFGF played a important role on the process of BTCC invasivenessand metastasis. This marker may become a new tafget for comprehensive treatments of BTCC.
