Research progress of endoscopic diagnosis and treatment for gastrointestinal stromal tumor

  • Gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) is a common mesenchymal tumor of the digestive tract, and has malignant potential and lack of specificity in clinical manifestations. GIST is a submucosal tumor that is difficult to obtain pathological tissue, and preoperative diagnosis is difficult to determine. In the past, surgical resection was commonly performed for GIST. In recent years, with the widespread use of endoscopic examination and the development of endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) technology, the diagnostic level and ability to obtain pathological tissue of GIST have greatly improved. For the treatment of GIST, endoscopy has advantages such as minimal trauma, fast recovery, few complications, and low cost. This paper reviewed the endoscopic diagnostic methods, endoscopic biopsy techniques and endoscopic treatment modalities for GIST based on domestic and international researches.
