Application of three-dimensional printing spinal orthosis combined with Schroth orthopedic gymnastics in patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis

  • Objective To observe the application effects of three-dimensional(3D)printing spinal orthosis combined with Schroth orthopedic gymnastics in patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis.
Methods A total of 110 adolescents with idiopathic scoliosis who were treated in the hospital were included in the study. All patients were divided into control group (55 cases, 3D printing spinal orthosis combined with conventional rehabilitation model) and observation group (55 cases, additionally given Schroth orthopedic gymnastics on the basis of control group) according to the random number table method. The clinical efficacy of the two groups was compared. The spinal range of motion, abdominal and dorsal muscle endurance, low back pain symptoms simplified McGill Pain Questionnaire (SF-MPQ) score, Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) and quality of life score before and after treatment were compared between the two groups.
Results The markedly effective rate in the observation group were significantly higher, and effective rate was lower than those in the control group (P < 0.05). After treatment, the Cobb angle and angle of trunk rotation (ATR) in both groups were reduced compared with those before treatment, and the Cobb angle and ATR in the observation group after treatment were significantly lower than those in the control group (P < 0.05). The abdominal muscle endurance and dorsal muscle endurance in the two groups after treatment were decreasedcompared to before treatment, and were significantly lower in the observation group than those in the control group after treatment (P < 0.05). After treatment, the scores of SF-MPQ and ODI were lower in both groups compared with those before treatment, and were significantly lower in the observation group than those in the control group (P < 0.05). After treatment, the scores of quality of life (mental health, self-image, function, pain and treatment satisfaction) scores in both groups were higher compared to that before treatment, and these scores were significantly higher in the observation group than those in the control group (P < 0.05).
Conclusion 3D printing spinal orthosis combined with Schroth orthopedic gymnastics has a good correction effect in the treatment of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, and it can alleviate the low back pain symptoms, improve the spinal range of motion, enhance the abdominal and dorsal muscle endurance, and improve the quality of life.
