Clinical effect of multi-component exercise in the treatment of elderly patients with chronic heart failure complicated with sarcopenia

  • Objective To observe the clinical effect of multi-component exercise in the elderly patients with chronic heart failure complicated with sarcopenia.
Methods A total of 96 elderly patients with chronic heart failure complicated with sarcopenia were selected as research objects by convenient sampling method. They were divided into control group (n=48) and observation group (n=48) according to the order of admission. The control group received conventional intervention, while the observation group was supplemented with multi-component exercise on the basis of routine intervention. The treatment course was 12 weeks. Before and after treatment, 6-minute walking test (6MWT), B-type urine natriuretic peptide (BNP), simple body function (SPPB), handhold strength and self-care ability (Barthel index) score in the two groups were analyzed and compared.
Results Before treatment, there were no significant differences in 6MWT distance, BNP level, SPPB score, grip strength and Barthel index score between the two groups (P>0.05). After 12 weeks of treatment, the 6MWT distance of two groups was longer than before treatment, BNP level was lower than before treatment, SPPB score, grip strength and Barthel index score were higher than before treatment(P < 0.05). After 12 weeks of treatment, the 6MWT distance of the observation group was longer than that of the control group, BNP level was lower than that of the control group, SPPB score, grip strength and Barthel index score were higher than that of the control group, the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05).
Conclusion Multi-component exercise is effective in the treatment of elderly patients with chronic heart failure complicated with sarcopenia, which is helpful to improve heart function, promote the recovery of physical function, and improve the patients′ self-care ability.
