Research trends and prospects of traditional Chinese medicine massage based on CiteSpace visual analysis

  • Objective To summarize and perform visualized analysis for the core literature in the field of Tuina, and to provide literature support for discussing the research status and development trends.
Methods The Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) and the Web of Science (WOS) database were retrieved from the establishment of the database to December 31, 2021, and the relevant literature on Tuina researches was retrieved. CiteSpace software was used to draw atlas of the author, institution, country and region, keyword network for visual analysis.
Results A total of 5 638 literatures were obtained in CNKI, and the annual publication volume tended to be stable. The research trends were from clinical research to basic research and evidence-based research, orthopedics research to internal medicine research, and emphasis on treatment experience and curative effect to prognosis and quality of life. There were 346 literatures in WOS database, the amount of published literatures showed a gradual upward trend. Chinese authors published the most literatures, and it is characterized by the gradual emphasis on the efficacy and evidence-based research of massage. The research team was mainly composed of major Chinese medicine colleges and universities in China, but they merely cooperated with each other.
Conclusion At present, the content and direction of Tuina research tend to be stable, and certain achievements have been achieved, but the research team has less cooperation and communication, and the innovation is slightly insufficient. Being oriented by the development of multidisciplinary integration, TCM comprehensive therapy, expanding the extension of the discipline and carrying out high-quality and high-level clinical research on Tuina are important ways to enhance the academic status and influence of Tuina.
