Research progress of okadaic acid induced Alzheimer′s disease animal model

  • Okadaic acid(OA) is a strong polyether marine toxin, which can inhibit the activity of protein phosphatase-1 (PP1) and protein phosphatase-2A (PP2A), and promote the hyperphosphorylated tau protein. Based on the characteristics of OA and its simple operation, low cost and short modeling cycle, OA has been widely used in the development of Alzheimer's disease (AD) models characterized by changes of phosphorylated tau at home and abroad. However, the specific application methods of OA in literature reports are not uniform. This paper collected relevant researches at home and abroad, summarized the progress of OA in establishing AD model from the aspects of OA preparation, modeling animal species, intracerebral injection site, OA injection dose, model evaluation methods, and action mechanism, providing a reference for the rational application of the model.
