Application of 3D printing combined with bridge fixation system for finite element analysis in treatment of patients with comminuted and complex acetabular fractures

  •   Objective  To observe the effect of 3D printing combined with bridge fixation system for finite element analysis in treatment of patients with comminuted and complex acetabular fractures.
      Methods  A total of 112 patients with comminuted and complex acetabular fractures were selected and randomly divided into observation group and control group, with 56 cases in each group. The control group was treated by conventional internal fixation with steel plate, while the observation group was treated by 3D printing combined with bridge fixation system for finite element analysis. The postoperative recovery status, satisfaction degree of restoration, Harris score and incidence of complications were compared between the two groups.
      Results  The hospital stay and fracture healing time in the observation group were significantly shorter than those in the control group (P < 0.05). The satisfaction degree of restoration in the observation group was 83.93%, which was significantly higher than 66.07% in the control group (P < 0.05). The Harris scores at 3 and 6 months after operation in the observation group were significantly higher than those in the control group (P < 0.05). The incidence of complications in the observation group was 3.57%, which was significantly lower than 14.28% inthe control group (P < 0.05).
      Conclusion  The 3D printing combined with bridge fixation system for finite element analysis is effective in treatment of patients with comminuted and complex acetabular fractures, which can obtain satisfactory restoration and fixation effects, reduce postoperative complications, and improve recovery of hip function.
