Effect of Yangxin Anshen Decoction on sleep in patients with schizophrenia complicating with sleep disturbance

  •   Objective  To investigate the effect of Yangxin Anshen Decoction on sleep structure and sleep quality in patients with schizophrenia with sleep disturbance.
Methods  Eighty-six patients with schizophrenia with sleep disorder were randomly divided into control group and observation group, with 43 cases in each group. The control group was treated with conventional western medicine, and the observation group was treated with Yangxin Anshen Decoction on the basis of the control group. Clinical efficacy, TCM syndrome score, sleep quality, sleep structure and incidence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups.
Results  The total effective rate of the observation group was 88.37%, which was significantly higher than 69.77% of the control group (P < 0.05). After treatment, the scores of primary syndrome, secondary syndrome and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) in the two groups were significantly lower than those before treatment, and were significantly lower in the observation group than the control group (P < 0.05); the time of stage 1 (S1) and stage 2 (S2) of non-rapid eye movement sleep in the two groups were significantly shorter than those before treatment, and were significantly shorter in the observation group than the control group (P < 0.05); the time of the third (S3) and fourth (S4) stages of non-rapid eye movement sleep as well as the time of rapid eye movement in the two groups were significantly longer than those in the control group, and were significantly longer in the observation group than the control group (P < 0.05). There was no statistical significance in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups (P>0.05).
Conclusion  Yangxin Anshen Decoction combined with conventional western medicine can effectively improve the clinical efficacy of in patients with schizophrenia with sleep disturbance, improve their sleep structure and sleep quality, and has higher safety.
