Evidence-based nursing for breast cancer patients with intravenous chemotherapy undergoing peripherally inserted central catheter

  • Objective To observe the effect of evidence-based nursing intervention for breast cancer chemotherapy patients with peripherally inserted central catheter(PICC). Methods A total of 50 breast cancer patients with PICC insertion admitted in our hospital were selected, and they were randomly divided into observation group and control group, with 25 cases in each group. General nursing was carried out in the control group, and evidence-based nursing intervention was additionally given to the observation group on the basis of the control group. The effect of the two groups after PICC insertion and the occurrence of complications were compared. Results The success rate of the first insertion of PICC in the observation group was 92.00%, which was significantly higher than 88.00% of the control group(P<0.05). PICC retention time in the observation group was(108.92±2.35)d, which was significantly better than(82.65±3.79)d in the control group(P<0.05). There was no significant difference in incidence of complications within 30 d after operation between the two groups(P>0.05). The incidence of complications within 30 to 60 d in the observation group was 8.00%, which was significantly lower than 32.00% in the control group(P<0.05). Conclusion Evidence-based nursing intervention can reduce the incidence of complications after PICC catheterization and prolong its retention time.
