Observation of early rehabilitation combined with continuous nursing for elderly patients after total hip replacement

  • Objective To explore the effect of early rehabilitation nursing combined with continuous nursing after discharge in treatment of elderly patients after total hip replacement(THR). Methods Totally 112 elderly patients with THR were selected and randomly divided into control group(n=56)and observation group(n=56). The control group was conducted with routine nursing rehabilitation training and health guidance, and the observation group was conducted with early rehabilitation nursing combined with continuous nursing after discharge. The Harris score and Barthel index at the time points of after operation, hospital discharge, 3 and 6 months after discharge as well as incidence of complications were compared between the two groups. Results At the time points of hospital discharge and 3, 6 months after discharge, the Harris scores and Barthel index in both groups increased, and the Harris scores and Barthel index in the observation group were significantly higher than those in the control group(P<0.05). The total incidence of complications in the observation group was 3.57%, which was significantly lower than 10.71% in the control group(P<0.05). Conclusion Early rehabilitation nursing combined with continuous nursing after discharge can promote hip joint function recovery, improve daily activity ability, and reduce the incidence of complications in elderly patients after THR.
