Effect of locking plate fixation through pronator quadratus muscle on wrist function of patients with distal radius fracture

  •   Objective   To explore the effect of locking plate fixation through pronator quadratus muscle on wrist function of patients with distal radius fracture.   Methods   A total of 95 patients with distal radius fractures were randomly divided into two groups. Control group(n=47)was treated with external stent fixation, while observation group(n=48)was treated with locking plate fixation through pronator quadratus muscle. The operation indexes, wrist function and postoperative complications were compared between the two groups.   Results   The operation time, volume of intra-operative bleeding and fracture healing time in the control group were significantly longer or more than those in the observation group(P<0.05). In the observation group, the facet step, shortening of radius, Gartland-Werley score, ulnar inclination degree and palmar inclination degree were significantly better than those in the control group(P<0.05). The incidence of postoperative complications in the observation group was 6.25%, which was significantly lower than 21.28% in the control group(P<0.05).   Conclusion   Locking plate fixation through pronator quadratus muscle is effective in treatment of patients with distal radius fracture, which has the advantages of short operation time, less injury to the human body and low incidence of postoperative complications, and it can promote the recovery of wrist function.
