Effect of vacuum sealing drainage tube placed under the fat layer of incision on incision healing in patients with return operation for colostomy

  •   Objective  To investigate the effect of vacuum sealing drainage tube placed under the fat layer of the incision on the incision healing in patients with return operation for colostomy.
Methods  Totally 49 patients with return operation for colostomy were selected. Control group (n=25) was conducted with normal saline washing without placing of drainage tube, while observation group (n=24) was treated with vacuum sealing drainage tube placed under the fat layer of the incision after washing the incision with normal saline.
Results  The healing time of the observation group was (7.2±1.2) d, which was significantly shorter than (11.5±2.1) d of the control group (P < 0.05). In the observation group, there were 20 cases of grade A of healing, 4 cases of grade B and 0 case of grade C. In the control group, there were 14 cases of grade A, 7 cases of grade B and 4 cases of grade C. The healing status of the observation group was significantly better than that of the control group (P < 0.05).
Conclusion  Placing vacuum sealing drainage tube in subcutaneous fat layer can effectively reduce the infection rate of incision after return operation for colostomy, improve the healing rate of incision and shorten the hospital stay.
