Analysis in necessity of Helicobacter pylori infection screening in healthy physical examinations of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus

  •   Objective  To investigate Helicobacter pylori (Hp) infection screening in healthy physical examinations of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Methods  The Hp infection conditions of 1 897 cases with type 2 diabetes, 750 cases with impaired fasting glucose and 800 healthy controls were detected and compared by exhale urease breath test method. Out of these patients, 1 004 cases with type 2 diabetes were divided into Hp infection sub-group and Hp non-infection sub-group. Differences of blood glucose and blood lipid were compared between the two groups.
Results  Hp infection positive rate in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients and those with impaired fasting glucose were 47.8%, 41.6%, respectively, which were significantly higher than 34.8% in the control group. There were significant differences in fasting blood glucose, serum total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, triglyceride and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol between HP infected and non-infected subgroups(P < 0.05).
Conclusion  Type 2 diabetes mellitus patients are more likely to be infected with by Hp, and it may impact on glucose and lipid metabolism in patients with type 2 diabetes. Therefore, it is of great significance to detect Hp in type 2 diabetic patients.
