Analysis of consistency between core needle biopsy of musculoskeletal or soft tissue mass under guidance of ultrasound and postoperative pathological examination results

  •   Objective  To investigate the consistency and clinical significance of ultrasound-guided core needle biopsy(CNB) for patients with musculoskeletal or soft tissue masses and postoperative pathological examination results.
      Methods  A total of 66 patients with musculoskeletal or soft tissue masses who underwent CNB and surgical resection of the lesions were collected. The consistency of CNB and surgical pathological examination was determined using Kappa test.
      Results  The success rate of puncture in all 66 patients was 100.0%. The pathological accuracy rate, support rate, negative rate and total effective rate of CNB under ultrasound guidance were 72.7%(48/66), 19.7%(13/66), 7.6%(5/66) and 92.4%(61/66), respectively. There was a strong consistency between CNB pathology and surgical pathology (κ=0.909, P < 0.001). CNB pathological results showed that 89.2%(33/37)benign patients and 96.6%(28/29) patients confirmed as malignant tumors were almost in accordance with surgical pathological results.
      Conclusion  The ultrasound-guided CNB pathological diagnosis for muscle, bone and soft tissue masses has better agreement with the pathological diagnosis of surgical specimens, and provides a good basis for the preparation and choice of operation modes.
