Effect of nursing intervention based on risk management in prevention of complications caused by peripherally inserted central catheter in breast cancer patients

  •   Objective  To explore effect of nursing intervention based on risk management in prevention of complications caused by peripherally inserted central catheter(PICC) in breast cancer patients.
Methods  A total of 100 patients with breast cancer who received PICC routine care from March 2016 to February 2018 in our hospital were selected as control group, and those with PICC risk management from March 2018 to June 2019 in our hospital were selected as study group. The operation conditions of PICC and the incidence of complications were compared between the two groups.
Results  There was no significant difference in success rate of one-time catheterization between the two groups (P>0.05). The success rate of one-time puncture was higher in the study group and catheterization time was shorter than that in the control group(P < 0.05). There was no significant difference between the two groups in the incidence of venous thrombosis and catheter blockage (P>0.05). The study group had lower incidence of phlebitis, bleeding and infection caused by PICC catheterization than that of the control group (P < 0.05).
Conclusion  Nursing intervention based on risk management can significantly improve the quality of PICC catheterization after breast cancer operation, and effectively prevent phlebitis, bleeding, infection and other complications.
