Effect observation of modified Wuwei Shigao Decoctioncombined with acupuncture of sphenopalatine ganglion and desloratadine in the treatment of allergic rhinitis

  •   Objective  To investigate the effect of modified Wuwei Shigao Decoction combined with acupuncture of sphenopalatine ganglion and desloratadine in the treatment of allergic rhinitis.
Methods  Totally 40 patients with allergic rhinitis were randomly divided into observation group and control group, with 20 cases in each group. The control group was treated with acupuncture of sphenopalatine ganglion combined with desloratadine, while the observation group was treated with modified Wuwei Shigao Decoction on the basis of the control group. The therapeutic effect of the two groups was compared.
Results  The total effective rate of the observation group was 95.00%, which was significantly higher than 75.00% of the control group (P < 0.05). Before treatment, there were no significant differences in the scores of TCM syndromes such as runny discharge, paroxysmal nasal itching, turbinate enlargement and nasal obstruction between the two groups (P>0.05). After treatment, the score of each syndrome in both groups was significantly lower than that before treatment (P < 0.05), and the scores of symptoms in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group (P < 0.05). There were no significant differences in serum immunoglobulin E (IgE), serum eosinophil cationic protein (ECP) and serum eosinophil (EOS) between the two groups before treatment (P>0.05). After treatment, the above indexes in both groups were significantly lower than those before treatment (P < 0.05), and the indexes in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group after treatment (P < 0.05). The incidence rates of adverse reactions were 15.00% in the observation group and 20.00% in the control group, and there was no significant difference in the incidence rate of adverse reactions between the two groups (P>0.05).
Conclusion  Based on the treatment of sphenopalatine ganglion combined with desloratadine, Wuwei Shigao Decoction is safe and effective for allergic rhinitis patients, which can relieve the clinical symptoms of patients.
