CT plain scan versus enhanced scan in the diagnosisof blunt abdominal trauma

  •   Objective  To compare the value of CT plain scan and enhanced scan in the diagnosis of blunt abdominal trauma (BAT).
Methods  A total of 97 patients with suspected BAT were selected and conducted with CT plain scan and enhanced scan. The diagnostic accuracy of visceral injury was analyzed based on the results of operative pathology as "golden standard".
Results  Among the 97 patients, 82 cases were diagnosed as BAT according to result of clinicopathology, with totally 103 injured organs. The detection rates of plain and enhanced CT scans were 91.26% and 98.06% respectively, and there was significant difference (P < 0.05). The sensitivity, specificity, accuracy and Kappa value of CT plain scan and enhanced scan in the diagnosis of BAT were 90.24% and 97.56%, 73.33% and 86.67%, 87.63% and 95.88%, and 0.573 and 0.842.
Conclusion  Both CT plain scan and enhanced CT scan are important methods for examination of abdominal injuries, which are helpful for finding organ injuries and evaluating severity, and the diagnostic value of enhanced CT scan is greater than that of CT plain scan.
