Holistic nursing based on responsibility for elderly patients after cholecystectomy

  •   Objective  To explore the effect of holistic nursing based on responsibility on the complications and psychological status of elderly patients after cholecystectomy.
Methods  A total of 100 elderly patients undergoing cholecystectomy in our hospital were selected and divided into control group(n=50) and observation group(n=50) by random number table. The control group was given routine nursing of cholecystectomy, while the observation group was given holistic nursing based on responsibility on the basis of routine nursing. The occurrence of complications and changes of psychological status were compared between the two groups.
Results  There were no significant differences in the incidences of biliary leakage, abdominal distension, abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting and subcutaneous emphysema between the two groups (P > 0.05). The incision infection rate and total incidence of complications of the observation group were lower than that in the control group (P < 0.05). The Self-rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) and Self-rating Depression Scale(SDS) scores at 30 min before anesthesia induction in the control group were significantly higher than that at 1 d before surgery (P < 0.05), while showed no significant differences in the observation group(P > 0.05). SAS and SDS scores at 30 min before anesthesia induction and 3 d after surgery were significantly lower than that in the control group (P < 0.05).
Conclusion  Holistic nursing based on responsibility for elderly patients undergoing cholecystectomy has significant effect on improving negative psychological state and reducing operative complications.
