Effect of lattice carbon dioxide laser combined with local medication on treating onychomycosis

  •   Objective   To study the therapeutic effect of lattice carbon dioxide laser combined with local medication on onychomycosis.
      Methods   Sixty onychomycosis patients in dermatology department of our hospital were selected as study subjects. All patients were randomly divided into observation group and control group according to random number table method. Patients in the control group were treated with lattice carbon dioxide laser, while those in the observation group was treated with lattice carbon dioxide laser combined with external application of luriconazole cream. The therapeutic effect, treatment satisfaction and adverse reactions of the two groups were compared and analyzed.
      Results   The total effective rate of treatment in the observation group was significantly higher than that in the control group(P < 0.05). According to different grouping, the total clinical effective rate of the observation group was significantly better than that of the male patients with age ≥50 years old, diseases course ≥10 years, total nail lesion type, thickness < 2 mm and involvement nail as non-thumb/toe in the control group(P < 0.05), and was also higher in observation group in female patients with age < 50 years, course < 10 years, partial nail lesion type, thickness greater than 2 mm, involved nail for big toe and three fungal strains of grouping that those in the control group (P>0.05). The total nursing satisfaction of the observation group was 70.00%, which was significantly higher than 43.33% of the control group (P < 0.05). Most patients experienced varying degrees of burning sensation in therapy, but none of them quit the study because of discomfort. During the treatment period, there was no abnormal situations occurred such as subthyroid hemorrhage, defect and liver and kidney dysfunction in patients of two groups, and urine and blood routine examinations were normal.
      Conclusion   Lattice carbon dioxide laser combined with luriconazole cream can effectively improve the treatment effect and patients' satisfaction with the treatment in the treatment of onychomycosis.
