Correlation between serum homocysteine level and arterial stiffness in elderly patients with hypertension

  • Objective To explore correlation between pulse wave velocity (PWV)and serum homocysteine (Hcy)level in elderly patients with hypertension. Methods 52 elderly patients with hypertension were collected and the PWV and Hcy level were detected on an empty stomach. The measures of total plasma homocysteine and of PWV were taken on the same day. Results There was a significant correlation between PWV and Hcy level (t=13.47,P<0.001 ).Conclusion When the blood pressure is well controlled, there is a positive relationship between PWV and Hcy level.
