Anatomical basis and efficacy of modified release of ligament in treatment of patients with tarsal tunnel syndrome

  • Objective To explore the anatomical basis and efficacy of modified release of lig-ament in treatment of patients with tarsal tunnel syndrome. Methods A syringe needle or a round pin was used to puncture at 6 ligaments of flexor retinaculum in 3 fresh cadavers′ankle in order to prolong the ligaments, study the maximum extension of the flexor retinaculum ligaments and ex-pand the malleolar canal. Then this method can be applied for 30 patients with tarsal tunnel syn-drome.Results Pfeiffer′s evaluation method showed that 20 patients had a excellent score,8 pa-tients had a good score, and only 2 patients had a poor score. Conclusion Application of point acupuncture in prolong of ligaments can be used as a new surgical treatment for patients with tarsal tunnel syndrome.
