Clinical observation on the effect posterior approach of internal fixation with pedicle screws combine with interbody fusion cage in the treatment of senile lumbar disc herniation and lumbar spinal stenosis

  • Objective To discuss the effect of the posterior approach of internal fixation with pedicle screws combined with interbody fusion cage for senile lumbar disc herniation(LDH)and lumbar spinal stenosis(LSS).Methods From 2009 to 2012,clinical material of 52 senile patients with LDH and LSS were analyzed retrospectively. Results 52 patients took out the suture after two weeks, postoperative incision were primary healing and there was no infection and complications such as nerve accidental injury. All the patients were all followed up,the average follow-up period was 2.2 years (range:9~36 months). There were 29 patients with excellent score,17 with good score and 6 with fair score according to Macnab score system, the total successful rate(excellent rate and good rate )added up to 88.46%.Conclusion Posterior approach of internal fixation with pedi-cle screws combined with interbody fusion cage for senile patients with LDH and LSS guarantees the complete decompression for diseased region and maintains spinal stability and intervertebral height to get significant treatment effect.
