Objective To compare the difference between Victoria Blue method (group A) and Verhoeff method (group B) in the interpretation of pleural invasion in lung cancer and serous or venous invasion in colorectal cancer in terms of staining process, staining time and staining effect.
Methods In the group A and group B, 50 cases of suspected pleural invasion of lung cancer and 20 cases of suspected serosal or venous invasion of colorectal cancer were enrolled for elastic fiber staining. The dyeing process, dyeing time and dyeing effect were compared between the two groups; pleural invasion and serosal or venous invasion were evaluated comprehensively according to the stability, clarity as well as contrast of staining, and the staining quality and interpretation accuracy were scored.
Results Compared with the group B, the operation of group A was simpler, the staining quality was stable, and the relationship between tumor cells and visceral pleura, serous membrane or vein was clearer. The interpretation score of the group A was significantly higher than that of the group B (P < 0.05).
Conclusion Victoria blue staining is helpful to accurately evaluate pleural invasion of lung cancer and serous membrane or vein invasion of colorectal cancer, and improve the accuracy of interpretation.
