Application of modified Taohong Siwu Decoction and Wuling Powder in perioperation in elderly patients with femoral intertrochanteric fracture

  •   Objective  To observe the clinical effects of modified Taohong Siwu Decoction and modified Wuling Powder in the elderly patients with intertrochanteric fractures after internal fixation.
Methods  Sixty elderly patients with intertrochanteric fracture of femur were selected and divided into treatment group and control group according to random number table method, with 30 cases in each group. The control group was given proximal femoral nail antirotation (PFNA) internal fixation and routine postoperative treatment; in addition to the above treatments, the treatment group was given modified Taohong Siwu Decoction and Wuling Powder the next day after surgery, and the treatment was lasted for 2 weeks. On the 1st and 14th day after surgery, Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) score, thigh circumference measurement(TCM), Merle d'Aubigne-Postel hip function score, and fracture clinical syndrome score were performed.
Results  On the 14th postoperative day, VAS scores of the two groups were lower than those of the 1st postoperative day, and thigh circumference was shorter than that of the 1st postoperative day (P < 0.05). VAS score of the treatment group was lower than that of the control group, and thigh circumference was shorter than that of the control group (P < 0.05). On the 14th postoperative day, Merle d'Aubigne-Postel scores of both groups were higher than those of the 1st postoperative day, and the clinical syndrome scores of fracture were lower than that of the first postoperative day, and the Merle d'Aubigne-Postel score of the treatment group was higher than that of the control group, and the clinical syndrome score of fracture was lower than that of the control group (P < 0.05). On the 14th day after operation, the total effective rate of the treatment group was higher than that of the control group (P < 0.05).
Conclusion  After PFNA internal fixation in elderly patients with intertrochanteric fractures, oral administration of modified Taohong Siwu Decoction and modified Wuling Powder can effectively relieve degree of pain and swelling, improve hip joint function, and enhance recovery after surgery.
