Clinical efficacy of herbal fumigation on hand-foot syndrome after chemotherapy in colorectal cancer patients

Abstract
Objective To observe the effect of herbal fumigation on hand-foot syndrome after capecitabine chemotherapy. Methods Eighty-four colorectal cancer patients with Ⅱ degree of hand-foot syndrome induced by oral capecitabine for chemotherapy were randomly divided into control group and treatment group. Patients in the control group orally administrated vitamin B6 and mecobalamine, and those in the treatment group was additionally given herbal fumigation based on oral administration of drugs. The curative effects of the two groups were compared after treatment. Results The total effective rate was 64.3% in the control group, and 90.5% in the treatment group; the cure rate was 38.1% in the control group, and 66.7% in the treatment group, there were statistically significant differences in total effective rate and cure rate between the two groups(P<0.05). Conclusion Fumigation with traditional Chinese medicine based on oral administration of drugs can improve the effective rate and cure rate of hand-foot syndrome.
