A qualitative study on psychological experience of nurses aiding Hubei Province during outbreak of Coronavirus Disease 2019

Objective To investigate the psychological experience of the seventh batch of nurses of Jiangsu Province who provided aiding for Hubei Province, and to understand the psychological status of long-distance support nurses in Hubei Province during the outbreak of Coronavirus Disease 2019 in order to provide the basis for humanistic care of nurses after the epidemic. Methods The purpose sampling method was used to select 10 front-line clinical nurses who provided anti-epidemic support in a hospital in Wuhan Province from February to March 2020, and the in-depth interviews were performed for these nurses, and the data was analyzed using the Colaizzi seven-step analysis method. Results Three themes were extracted from psychological experience of the nurses in Hubei Province during the epidemic: mental state fluctuations, external force support and its influence, and future career consideration. Conclusion There are psychological fluctuations in nurses assisting Hubei Province during the outbreak of Coronavirus Disease 2019, and they presented a greater need for knowledge training and social recognition. Therefore nursing managers should pay attention to psychological training and counseling of clinical nurses, strengthening daily skills training, making full use of media resources, and increasing communications between hospitals and society.
