  • Objective To analyze artificial tears in prevention of topical ocular injury caused by topical anti glaucoma drugs. Methods A total of 96 patients with primary open-angle glaucoma treated by anti glaucoma drugs were randomly divided into observation group and control group, with 48 cases in each group. The control group only used anti glaucoma drugs, while the observation group used anti glaucoma drug therapy combined with artificial tears treatment. After 3 months of treatment, the intraocular pressure, the breakup time of tear film, and underwent Schirmer I test(SIt)and corneal fluorescein staining(FL)score. Results No significant difference before treatment was seen in intraocular pressure(P>0.05). After treatment, intraocular pressure of the two groups was significantly decreased, but no difference between the two groups was found(P>0.05). Before treatment, there was no difference between tear break-up time(P>0.05). At 3 months after treatment, the control group the break-up time was significantly shortened, and was significantly shorter in the observation group compared to the control group(P<0.05). Before treatment, SIt showed no significant difference in two groups(P>0.05); after treatment, FL score of observation group was significantly better than that in the control group(P<0.05). Conclusion Artificial tears is favorable in maintaining the stability of ocular surface intima, and has better efficacy in prevention of topical ocular injury caused by topical anti glaucoma drugs.
