Objective To investigate the effect of Bushen Jianpi Decoction on postoperative recovery and prognosis of elderly patients with vertebral compression fracture after percutaneous kyphoplasty (PKP) by balloon dilatation.
Methods A total of 100 elderly patients with vertebral compression fractures admitted to our hospital were selected. According to the random number table method, the patients were divided into control group and observation group, with 50 cases in each group. Patients in both groups were treated with PKP in other grade three class A hospitals. The control group was treated with routine western medicine after operation, while the observation group was treated with Bushen Jianpi Decoction after operation. After treatment, the treatment efficacy, pain scores, motor function scores, Cobb angle and the height of anterior vertebral body loss were compared between the two groups before treatment and 6 months after treatment.
Results The total effective rate of the observation group was significantly higher than that of the control group (96.00% vs. 78.00%, P < 0.05). Before treatment, there were no significant differences in pain score, motor function scores, Cobb angle and height of anterior vertebral loss between the two groups (P>0.05). After treatment, the pain score, motor function score and the height of anterior vertebral loss in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group, and the Cobb angle was significantly smaller than that in the control group (P < 0.05).
Conclusion Bushen Jianpi Decoction has better recovery, remarkable curative efficacy and favorable prognosis for elderly patients with vertebral compression fracture after PKP operation.
