Objective To explore the efficacy of aspirin combined with rosuvastatin in the treatment of elderly patients with transient ischemic attack complicated with cerebral infarction.
Methods According to the time of hospital admission, a total of 140 patients with transient ischemic attack and initial cerebral infarction were divided into control group and observation group. The control group was treated with aspirin orally, while the observation group was treated with aspirin and rosuvastatin orally. After 12 months of follow-up, adverse reactions, recurrence rate of transient cerebral ischemia and recurrence rate of ischemic cerebral infarction were recorded in both groups. At the time points of before medication, 6 months and 12 months after medication, levels of blood lipid indexes such as triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC), high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and C-reactive protein (CRP) were detected.
Results The recurrence rates of transient cerebral ischemia and ischemic cerebral infarction in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group (P < 0.05). After 6 and 12 months of treatment, the levels of TC, TG, LDL-C and CRP in the observation group significantly decreased (P < 0.05), while HDL-C level significantly increased (P < 0.05). There were no severe adverse reactions in both groups.
Conclusion For patients with transient ischemic attack, combination of rosuvastatin and aspirin can significantly improve dyslipidemia, reduce CRP level and recurrence rates of transient ischemic attack and ischemic cerebral infarction.
