Treatment efficacy of ankle fusion by modified medial incision approach on end-stage ankle arthritis

    Abstract:
Objective  To explore clinical efficacy of ankle fusion by modified medial incision approach on end-stage ankle arthritis.
Methods  A total of 30 patients with end-stage ankle arthritis were selected as study objects. All of these patients underwent ankle fusion by modified medial incision approach. The American Society for Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Surgery (AOFAS) ankle-hindfoot functional score, Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) score and Short-form Health Status Questionnaire (SF-36) score were compared before and after surgery were compared.
Results  The scores of AOFAS ankle-hindfoot functional score and SF-36 score after operation were all significantly higher than those before operation, and VAS score was significantly lower than that before operation(P < 0.05).
Conclusion  Ankle fusion by modified medial incision approach has significant efficacy and higher satisfaction rate for end-stage ankle arthritis.
