Abstract:
Objective To explore the efficacy of endoscopic sinus surgery in treatment of patients with residual nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
Methods Totally 96 patients with residual nasopharyngeal carcinoma were randomly divided into control group and experimental group. Control group was treated with conventional open resection of nasopharyngeal carcinoman, and experimental group was treated with endoscopic sinus surgery. The surgical indexes, complications, the changes of immune function indexes and inflammatory factors before and after surgery were compared between two groups.
Results The operation time, intra-operative bleeding volume and hospital stay in experimental group were significantly better than those in control group (P < 0.05). Compared with indexes before surgery, the CD4+ and CD4+/CD8+ in experimental group increased significantly after surgery, the CD8+ significantly decreased, and these indexes in experimental group after operation were significantly better than those in control group (P < 0.05). After surgery, the levels of C reactive protein (CRP), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-8 (IL-8) in experimental group were significantly lower than those in control group (P < 0.05). The incidence rate of postoperative complications in experimental group was 6.25%, which was lower than 22.92% in control group (P < 0.05).
Conclusion Endoscopic sinus surgery is effective in treatment of patients with residual nasopharyngeal carcinoma, which can reduce tissue traumaand postoperative complications.
